Glencoe (picutred right), is known as the Glen of Weeping. It is one of the most beautiful areas in Scotland.
There are hundreds of superb peaks rising up out of the most picturesque lochs. If it's raining, Glencoe is truly living up to it's name! When the sun is shining it's a sheer joy to be here! When the Scottish mist is edging its way around the pines and conifers on the hillsides, it is truly inspiring. The Glencoe Mountain Resort has a variety of activities on offer throught the year, from skiiing to biking
Glencoe Lochan is only 10 minutes walk from Callart View. A number of magnificent Canadian Red Pines were brought here by Lord Strathcona when he was developing the area to look like a little part of Canada for his Indian princess bride.
Other short walks include 'Green Pool' which is just a pleasant 15 minutes stroll along the River Bank. For the fit and healthy there is always 'The Pap' to climb which is more like a three hour walk! Walkers and climbers will find plenty of other spectacular routes to enjoy around Glencoe.
Alittle further afield you wil find a whole range of sites to see and things to do.
Glenfinnan monument (pictured left) commemorates the place where Bonnie Prince Charlie landed at the start of the 1745 Jacobite Uprising. Here you can also see (or ride) the Jacobite Steam Train (recently of Harry Potter fame) as it crosses the Glenfinnan Viaduct.
Glencoe is an ideal place from which to take many varied trips. Sandy beaches, old castles, garden centres, museums, National Trust sights, chair lifts, mountain gondolas, winter skiing, steam train trips, and many, many other attractions are all within easy reach of this lovely part of the Central Highlands of Scotland. Boat trips can be taken that often allow porpoises, dolphins, whales otters and seals to be seen. You might even spot Nessie! The area offers the most spectacular and rugged views including views of Ben Nevis. (Pictured Below)
In the summer and winter alike, there is a good range of eating places many of which we frequent ourselves so we can recommend eating according to your taste.
